Project Description
UCSD – Café Ventanas
OVERVIEW
Café Ventanas invites students and faculty of UCSD on a sensory journey with its captivating blend of sights, textures, and aromas drawn from Africa, the Caribbean, and South America. We were entrusted with the task of curating and installing a plant program that seamlessly harmonized with this vibrant theme.
CHALLENGES
- All construction projects on the UCSD campus are strategically scheduled during the summer to ensure completion before the new semester begins.
- Before beginning the project, we carefully measured all built-in planters to determine the ideal plants and quantities.
PROCESS
- The furniture, colors, textures, and designs of the space were inspired by African, Caribbean, and South American themes. Accordingly, we opted for a tropical plant design to complement the custom-built planters.
- Our carefully selected plant palette features diverse leaf structures, shapes, depth, color variations, and heights to complement the vibrancy of the interior design, which includes patterns, warm tones, and organic materials.
RESULTS
Transforming ordinary spaces into inviting retreats, our team curated a lush environment that enhances the dining and studying experience for students.
- The abundant tropical foliage creates cozy, natural spaces for relaxation and focus.
- These plants serve as integral elements, seamlessly tying together various design features such as curved seating areas, drop grid panels, and pendant lighting.
- Our goal was to create a harmonious ambiance, promoting a sense of tranquility and warmth.
